Our tip: Sellaronda Bike Day

The organizing committee of the Maratona dles Dolomites attaches value not only to the racing programme, but also to charitable projects. Therefore, they donate a part of the entry fee. If you are not among the lucky bikers who receive a starting number, but you want to feel the special atmosphere of this extraordinary sport event, we recommend you to participate in the Sellaronda Bike Day that takes place at the end of June. It is not a competition, but certainly a first-rate event for cyclists, because the Sellaronda passes are closed off to cars, motorbikes and other vehicles.

Dolomiti Superbike – Mountainbike-Marathon

Every year at the beginning of July, more than 4,000 passionate mountain bikers coming from 30 nations meet in Villabassa/Niederdorf, only a few kilometres from our hotel in Sorafurcia/Geiselsberg, because there takes place the most famous marathon in the Dolomites. Besides many pro bikers, this competition gives hobby cyclists the opportunity to provide proof of their fitness. For many participants the personal challenge and the satisfaction they obtain from their outstanding athletic achievement is more important than the place. In addition, not only the kilometres and the elevation gain of the race are breath-taking, but also the unique landscape of the Dolomites around Villabassa/Niederdorf, Dobbiaco/Toblach, San Candido/Innichen, Sesto/Sexten and Braies/Prags.

The participants can choose from two distances: The short one is 60 km long and includes an elevation gain of 1,785 m. The long distance is 113 km long and has an elevation gain of 3,357 m.
