On of THE REASON why we at Zirm have changed our wellness concept to ‘Less – For – More’ is everyday food waste.
For years, we have all been calling for more sustainability, more environmental protection and a healthier future.
This involves thinking about many things:
- what food do I consume
- what means of transport do I use
- how can I contribute to waste separation
- and so on and so forth...
But who actually thinks about food waste?
At home, hopefully one or two people, but on holiday, with the changing times and the ever-increasing luxury of enjoyment, at motorway speed, so to speak, very few.
A single global benchmark is enough to make us prick up our ears, or rather, make our ears prick up:
food that we throw away instead of consuming leaves an enormous carbon footprint and was already estimated at 3.3 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalents in 2007.
This puts global food waste in third place in the ranking of CO2 emitters, behind the USA and China.
Faced with facts like these, and there are many, many more, my mouth is left so wide open that a huge fork with 100g of spaghetti wound around it could fit inside.
And for that reason alone, our decision to offer a room/breakfast package and then enjoy everything you can and want deserves the top spot on the winners' podium. Hold on to your hats:
